Mattress Cleaning for Better, Healthier Sleep from Silent Mites Cambridge

Information to Allergy Sufferers

Background:

Allergies can take on many different forms ranging from Asthma, Eczema, Rhinitis to sniffing, coughing, a blocked nose, sticky ear and sneezing.

Causes:

There are many factors that can cause allergies, one of the main reasons being Dust Mites or to be more precise the protien in their faeces.

Dust mites are unavoidable. Where there is dust there are mites but it is not the sign of a dirty home.

Dust mites live in carpets, mattresses, pillows and curtains. They are most common in mattresses because they thrive on the warm, humid conditions.

The Facts:

Dust mites are from the spider family. There are up to 2 million living in the average mattress. The skin and fecal matter the dust mites leave behind contains the protien that causes allergic reactions.

Reducing the symptoms:

In order to reduce allergy symptons, it is essential to significantly lower the levels of dust mites.

How Can I do This?

You spend a 1/3 of your life in bed. It makes sense, therefore, to start with your mattress. It has one of the greatest concentrations of dust mites. Our 5 step process is the most thorough mattress sterilisation available.

As you can see this is a comprehensive treatment of your mattress.

Other measures:

We can also treat other bedding and soft furnishings in your bedroom:

DUVETS, PILLOWS, CURTAINS, UPHOLSTERY AND CARPETS

Washing:

You should wash your bedlinen at 60 degrees centigrade or in an allergen reducing washing detergent such as Fabricleanse which we can supply. Soft toys should be washed in the same way or put in a plastic bag in the freezer for 24 hours.

Vacuuming:

You should use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter. This holds on to 99.97% of the particles and will not merely blow allergens around the room like a regular filter will allow.

Sprays and Protective bedding:

Be very wary of sprays. They can just be adding a chemical cocktail to your home and aggrevate symptoms rather than reduce them. We supply a product called Aircleanse, based on essential oils. These can be effective and are SAFE for allergy sufferers.

Protective bed covers are common place. Be warned: while effective mattress covers can help as part of a package of measures, they are virtually useless when used alone.

It is a combination of steps that gets the best results.

Air Purifiers:

Our home atmosphere is up to 100x more polluted than the air outside according to the Environment Protection Agency. Exposure to indoor pollutants is a key contributor to asthma.

We supply a range of air purifiers that can eliminate pollen, airborne allergens, viruses, mould spores and bad odours.

Airing the Mattress:

A simple tip when making your bed is to turn the covers back and allow the sun to get at the mattress to air it. This helps make the mattress less habitable for the dust mites.

Carpets:

It is worth considering removing carpets from an allergy sufferers room or getting them cleaned regularly by a reputable company. We can recommend an excellent company called Art of Clean.
